Overview:
St. Matthew School, a vibrant and faith-filled PreK–8 Catholic school in Northeast Philadelphia, is seeking a passionate and dedicated full-time Music Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children across a range of ages, a strong foundation in music education, and a collaborative spirit that aligns with our Catholic mission and community values.
Responsibilities:
● Provide general music instruction to students in grades PreK through 8 on a weekly basis.
● Direct and lead the student chorus, including rehearsals and performances.
● Coordinate and support music for the school musical in collaboration with other staff and volunteers.
● Plan and produce two major concerts per year: a Winter Concert and a Spring Concert.
● Assist in organizing and providing musical support for school prayer services and Masses.
● Help create the musical ambiance for a variety of school celebrations.
● Coordinate and organize various school assemblies, including the annual school talent show.
● Participate in school coverage duties (e.g., lunchroom, recess, arrival/dismissal supervision).
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field.
● Valid Pennsylvania K–12 Music Education Certification (preferred).
● Demonstrated experience teaching music to children in a classroom or ensemble setting.
● Familiarity with a variety of musical genres, instruments, and vocal techniques.
● Strong classroom management skills and ability to engage students of all ages.
● Commitment to fostering a love of music and nurturing student creativity.
● Ability to collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively with parents.
Preferred Skills:
● Piano proficiency and willingness to accompany or offer piano lessons (not required).
